Response of polyelectrolyte complexes to subsequent addition of salts with different cations.

  • Original language description

The response of polyelectrolyte complexes between sodium poly(styrenesulfonate) or poly(methacrylate) and poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) to addition of electrolytes of different valency was studied using light scattering. It was found that polyvalent cations, in particular Al3+, have a remarkable stabilizing effect on the complex and precludes its cleavage by smaller inorganic ions.
