    Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is used as a key component of total joint replacements (TJR). One of the main reasons why TJR's fail is the rise of microscopic UHMWPE wear particles. In this study we investigated colloidal solutions ofUHMWPE particles and Au nanoparticles. It has been demonstrated that the quantitative analysis of UHMWPE wear particles by means of QELS is possible, at least in principle, on condition that we use a known amount of Au nanoparticles for calibration.

    Polyethylen s ultravysokou molekulovou vahou (UHMWPE) se používá jako klíčová komponenta totálních endoprotéz. Jednou z hlavnich příčin selhání endoprotéz je vznik mikroskopických UHMWPE částic v důsledku otěru. V této práci jsme studovali chování koloidních roztoků částic UHMWPE a Au, přičemž jsme ukázali, že pomocí metody QELS lze principielně určovat relativní počty UHMWPE částic, pokud ke kalibraci použijeme známé množství Au nanočástic.
