Syntheses of fluorene/carbazole-thienothiadiazole copolymers for organic photovoltaics
Original language description
The Suzuki coupling reaction was utilized for the syntheses of conjugated polymers with alternating conjugated electron-rich donor unit and conjugated electron-deficient acceptor unit in the same polymer backbone. The conjugated copolymers based on fluorene-thienothiadiazole and carbazole-thienothiadiazole structural units were synthesized. Organic multistep synthesis was applied for the preparation of tailored monomers, namely of the 4,6-bis[5`-bromo-3`-(2-ethylhexyl)thien-2`-yl]thieno[3,4-c][1,2,5]-thiadiazole (aromatic dihalocompound) and of the 9-(2-ethyl-hexyl)-2,7-bis(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)carba-zole (aromatic diboronic acid ester). These low-band gap materials were utilized as active layers in organic solar cells; see the second contribution (E8-1625) from our laboratory on 218th ECS meeting.
