Original language description
Unlike thermoplastic nanocomposites-, where polymer grafting to GO mostly increases exfoliation, nacre mimicking lamellar arrays are formed in the case of epoxy. The reason is lower viscosity and absence of shearing forces together with positive effect of reaction-induced phase separation. The best-balanced mechanical performance in the case of lamellar structure indicates that the very low content of the grafted polymer has an effect comparable to much higher content of the added polymer. Results achieved reveal an important role of internal structure of elastically embedded arrays of GO platelets.
