Single surface-streamer micro-discharge reactor for treatment of biologically contaminated samples(ICPIG2013)

  • Original language description

Předneseno:(ICPIG)/31./Granada,14.07.2013-19.07.2013 The reactor suitable for investigating interaction between reactive species produced by a single surface streamer micro-discharge and biologically contaminated surfaces was designed and first results were achieved on samples decontaminated by Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The single streamer micro-discharge was produced in coplanar surface dielectric barrier discharge electrode geometry by amplitude-modulated AC high-voltage waveforms. The discharge was fed by various gases (Ar, N2, O2) with or without water vapour admixtures. We used agar cylinders (? 20 x 5 mm) inoculated by Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae as the test sample surfaces. First experiments revealed that (i) even single streamer micro-discharge can inactivate microorganisms after few minutes long exposures, (ii) much faster inactivation was observed in the case of the discharge driven in the presence of oxygen and water vapours.
