Plasma Gasification of Organic Waste and Biomass, chapter 7
Original language description
The chapter presents a theoretical and experimental overview of plasma gasification of organic materials, including biomass and waste oils. It summarizes the potential advantages of using plasma for gasification, and introduces the fundamental chemistry of the process, including the thermodynamics, the energy balance and the kinetics. Extensive experimental results for the steam plasma are presented. Different feed materials have been tested, including sawdust, wooden pellets, polyethylene and pyrolytic oil produced from car tires. The results show that it is possible to produce syngas of high carbon monoxide and hydrogen content, with low levels of contaminants, and with a high calorific value. The advantages provided by steam, compared to other plasma gases, are demonstrated, and the possibility of using carbon dioxide as an input material to the process is shown.
