Original language description
The obtained results demonstrate the suitability of laser texturing for pre-treatment of steel substrates before the deposition of plasma sprayed tungsten coatings. This technology eliminates possible contamination by grit blasting, while the optimized texture geometry facilitates good filling of the surface asperities and intimate contact between the coating and the substrate. Partial coverage of the surface by the textures combined with the continuous wave fiber laser enables high processing rates, comparable to the traditional grit blasting. The adhesion to the substrate is higher than coating cohesion in both cases. The thermal diffusivity of the coatings is not strongly affected by the type of surface pre-treatment, neither is their high durability under thermal cycling conditions relevant for fusion reactor environments.n
