Status of the COMPASS Upgrade tokamak
Original language description
COMPASS Upgrade is a new medium-size, high magnetic field tokamak (R = 0.9 m, Bt= 5 T, Ip = 2 MA) currently under construction in the Institute of Plasma Physics, Prague, Czechia. The design of COMPASS Upgrade is based on cryo-cooled copper coils (operated at -196 °C) and a hot metallic first wall and vacuum vessel (operated at 500 °C) placed inside the vacuum cryostat. Thanks to the high magnetic field and hot metallic first wall accompanied by extreme plasma power fluxes, the device is aiming at the study of advanced confinement regimes, liquid metal divertor concepts, and other reactor-relevant topics.
