Precise simulation of the mode coupling effect on the density measurements by microwaves in the COMPASS Upgrade tokamak plasmas

  • Original language description

The diagnostic setup supposed on COMPASS Upgrade (CU) tokamak [1] includes interferometer system. That system allows obtaining the integral value of plasma density along the interferometer chord passing the plasma based on measurements of high frequency probe waves phase shift. In order to complete the concept design of interferometer diagnostic system for CU and to perform the analyses of the future experimental signals the simulation of mode coupling effect of the high frequency probe waves is needed. In current presentation we report the results of analytical treatment together with newly developed MATLAB code (Phase Shift Solver or PSS) and its application to simulate O and X-mode coupling and probe wave phase shift in toroidal plasma. The PSS code is validated on the experimental data obtained from COMPASS tokamak [2]. Further it is applied to simulate the phase shift at CU plasmas. The probe wave of the interferometer on CU issupposed to incident perpendicularly to the magnetic surface at the outer midplane. After passing the plasma in radial direction the wave reflects from the mirror on the high field side and the resulting signal is detected by antenna on the low field side. An equilibrium for CU scenarios calculated by means of FIESTA code [3, 4] and plasma profiles produced by METIS code [5] are used as an input for PSS. The newly developed PSS code together with existing FIESTA and METIS codes demonstrates the ability of the predictive modeling and experimental data analysis of differential interferometer signals with high accuracy
