The design and optimization of molten salt-gas heat exchangers for DEMO
Original language description
The planned DEMOnstration fusion power plant (DEMO) is designed to operate in a pulse (BURN-DWELL) regime, using a balance of plant (BoP) with an intermediate heat transfer system (IHTS). Some DEMO BoP concepts utilize molten salt-based IHTS (MS-IHTS). Such MS-IHTSs are connected to the primary heat transfer system (PHTS) and power conversion system (PCS), which work with different gases as the heat transfer media, via heat exchangers. These molten salt-gas heat exchangers are crucial components for MS-IHTSand future DEMO operation. Similar molten salt-gas heat exchangers designed for lower power are already in use, for example in concentrated solar power plants. Moreover, preliminary designs of molten salt-gas heat exchangers for DEMO were already introduced. This work builds on that knowledge and systematically develops it further.
