Plasma technology for solid waste treatment

  • Original language description

One of the essential byproducts of rise in living standards is an exponential increase in the amount of waste produced as the globe rushes toward a more urban future. Plasma-based waste treatment is a rapidly developing technology that is applied worldwide to the simultaneous processing of various wastes and the recovery of materials and energy. The development of novel, affordable, and highly efficient thermal plasma technologies is necessary for this technology to advance. This chapter throws light on thermal plasma fundamentals, discussion on diverse waste streams treatable by thermal plasma, associated problems and, basic and applied structure of thermal plasma-assisted waste treatment system. Through technical innovation, and the reduction of environmental consequences, waste may be utilized as a sustainable and feasible resource.
