Original language description
We investigated the structure of a peculiar population of Elymus plants (E. repens and E. hispidus, Triticeae) in the Čertoryje nature reserve in the Bílé Karpaty Mts. The high proportion of hybrids (> 30%), unparalleled in Central Europe, coupled with the occurrence of higher-ploidy cytotypes [namely heptaploids (7x) and octoploids (8x)] and successive hybrid generations (later than the F1), suggest that the population is best characterized as a hybrid swarm in which interspecific hybridization is the major driving force generating progeny, which thrives at the locality and participates in successive introgressive hybridization.
