  • Original language description

The chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the conditions for dignified old age in the Czech Republic, particularly in the area of institutional care. Given the increasing proportion of people over 80 years of age and the ?ageing of elderly? phenomenon, it is essential to monitor how human rights are respected in those who are no longer self-supporting, i.e. frail and/or incompetent. The first type of research is a qualitative study focused on identification and perception of what is labelled as ?dignified care?. The other type of research is a comparative study in five European countries (including the Czech Republic) that describes the current formal system of protection of fragile and incompetent senior citizens.
