Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a transitional phase between cognitive changes in physiological ag ing and early dementia. The amnestic form of MCI is considered a precursor to Alzheimer?s dise ase. The increasi ng number of elderly persons in the population is as sociated with an increase in the prevalence of chronic dise ases includ i ng cognitive impairment and subsequent dementia.
