In the Czech Republic, aid to and protection of children in various life situations have a longstanding tradition. In terms of its content, the article starts with dealing with historical connections of Socio-legal Protection of Children before year 1989. As a concrete social work shows an example of Ostrava. It maps historical development of social care, including social services and identifies used methods of social work in seventies and eighties of 20th century in Ostrava. The next part shows development of Socio-legal Protection of Children after year 1989 and point out the connection between Socio-legal Protection of Children and Social Work. Socio-legal Protection of Children is described on example of city Ostrava. Last part focuses on legislative framework of Socio-legal Protection of Children and its changes.
