The Importance of Historical Knowledge for Social Work as a Science, Profession and Academic Discipline - Experiences from Czech Republic
Original language description
The topic of the paper is a discussion on the importance of historical findings for social work as a science, profession and academic discipline, and a proposal of the method to obtain them. Presently, there is growing interest in mapping history because historical findings form a professional tradition of social work, they are part of the programme of social work science, they shape social workers? awareness of history, while playing a major role in self-understanding of social work and last but not least, by incorporating historical findings into the curriculum of future social workers, the minimum standard of education in social work is met. Historical findings are also important for strengthening the professional identity of social workers with their profession.
