Firbasian Non-thematic Layers in Paragraphs and Beyond
Original language description
The treatise is an interdisciplinary study from the area of hypersyntax and a literary text composition. It is divided into two chapters. The first one, focused on theory, deals with research already carried out in the sphere of text segmentation (J. Firbas, F. Daneš); the following, analytical chapter aims to examine the non-thematic layers of longer text sections (i.e. paragraphs, groups of paragraphs). The structure of paragraph is the key issue. The aim is to describe the organization of the stringof communicative purposes in formulating a communicative strategy, and possibly indicate what the goals of these strategies are and the way they affect the organization of text in particular. The basic unit investigated is paragraph, whose examination isbased on the description of lower level units - individual sentences as basic distributional fields. The analysis draws on the theory of functional sentence perspective.
