Interpersonal aspects of conference presentations as a distinct academic genre
Original language description
The research presented in this chapter tries to accomplish three main aims: firstly, since the object of the study is a specific type of spoken academic genre, the aim is to outline and identify typical generic features of the genre of conference presentations. Secondly, the research aims at revealing and exploring the linguistic means that contribute to the interpersonal meaning in the genre through the study of speaker self-representation strategies and interactional skills in connection with genre'srhetorical unfolding in conference language. Thirdly, by comparing English and 'Czech English' conference presentations, the research focuses on revealing and classifying possible culture-based rhetorical patterns in the genre.
