This paper deals with analysis of 469newspaper headlines related to the issue of immigration covered by the internetversion of the Guardian newspaper during the year 2010. With the help ofdiscourse analysis with a critical view and systemic functional linguistics(SFL) I would like to focus mainly on the interpersonal function of theseheadlines. Furthermore, I would like to unfold the newspaper?s attitude to thesubject of immigration and to comment on the influence the headlines have onthe construction of a particular image of immigrants, migrants, asylum seekersand refugees.
