    The book is one of the attempts to open the theme of the collective identity in the context of Czech research. As such, it is one of the outputs of the grant project ?Collective identity in the social networks of Central Europe? resolved at the Department of History and the Centre for research of medieval society and culture (VIVARIUM) of the University of Ostrava, the aim of which is impairment of the processes and mechanisms founding identity within medieval society. The authors of the chapters focus on the methodological level of various research fields to introduce current historiographical approaches and to clarify our theoretical starting points and also try to engage new perspectives when examining known historical sources
