Our aim was to compare the ability of a white rot fungus Irpex lacteus and a bacterial, activated sludge culture to decolorize azo-, anthraquinone- and triphenylmethane dyes in liquid mineral media. The efficiency of the decomposition process and of thecharacter biodegradation products were detected in the Ames test with and without metabolic activation.
