Eight Orthotrichum species of subgenus Gymnoporus were compared using the internally transcribed spacer regions-1 and -2 and the chloroplast trnHpsbA region. A phylogenetic analysis did not reflect the current division of this subgenus into sections Affinia and Leiocarpa.
