Habitat requirements and significance of artificial habitats of critically endangered dragonfly Sympetrum depressiusculum
Original language description
The species Sympetrum depressiusculum is currently endangered throughout Europe. As a result of the anthropogenic changes in aquatic habitats, the species abandons quickly and irreversibly its natural habitats, especially alluvial areas of lakes and unregulated rivers. Recently, however, the species has appeared in artificial habitats, where under suitable conditions numerous populations can be formed. One of the most significant alternative habitats for S. depressiusculum are fish breeding ponds. Theseponds obviously meet the habitat requirements of the species, because several cases of occurrence have been recorded in these artificial habitats in Central Europe. This paper is primarily focused on the occurrence of the species in fish breeding pondsin the North Moravia region in the Czech Republic. It analyses the factors that influence the occurrence of the species in artificial habitats (fish breeding ponds) in relation to its habitat requirements.
