THE INFLUENCE OF THE TEMPERATURE ON ADSORPTION OF SDS ON COALS

  • Original language description

The influence of temperature on adsorption behavior of anionic surfactant - sodiumdodecyl sulphate (SDS) has been studied. The adsorption from aqueous solutions was carried out at temperatures 25, 40, 60 and 80 oC. Experimental data confirmed that adsorption process can be described using Langmuir adsorption theory of monolayer coverage. The adsorption capacity of SDS on coal was found to increase with rise in temperature for all studied samples, the highest adsorption capacity being observed for bituminous coal. Tight relationship between adsorption capacity and critical micelle concentration (CMC) of SDS has been found. From Langmuir binding parameter b, equilibrium constant of the adsorption process was calculated.
