Original language description
The wood-decaying polypore Fomes fomentarius (Polyporaceae, Basidiomycota) is distributed throughout the wide range of its hosts in the northern hemisphere. In total, 162 records of this polypore were found in Natural History Museum in Oslo. The greatest number of the fungal records came from birch (108 Betula spp.), then alder (13 Alnus spp.), poplar (4 Populus spp.), beech (3 Fagus spp.), oak (2 Quercus spp.), hazel (2 Corylus spp.) and willow (2 Salix spp.). The minority of the records was with no substrate description.
