(2550) Proposal to conserve the name Plagiomnium against Orthomnion and Orthomniopsis (Bryophyta: Mniaceae)
Original language description
Mnion is an ancient Greek name for a moss that was applied to this genus by Dillenius (Hist. Musc.: 229. 1741) and, subsequently, this generic name was validly published by Hedwig (Sp. Musc. Frond.: 188. 1801) who placed in it 13 species. In this species composition Mnium was typically a catch-all genus and in modern moss classifications these species have been disposed to a number of distantly related genera and families.
