Original language description
Leptodontium proliferum is a rare species in Chile, which was originally described as Tortula umbrosa Dusén from Llanquihue Province (Dusén 1907). The name Tortula umbrosa was rejected against the much better known and widely accepted L. proliferum Herzog (Cano and Gallego 2008; Klanzenga 2016). Hitherto, L. proliferum was only recorded from Copiapó, Arauco, Valdivia, Llanquihue, Aisén and Antártica Chilena Provinces (Cano and Gallego 2008; Müller 2009a; Ellis et al. 2020) and here it is discovered for the first time in Osorno Province.
