Burmaculex (Diptera: Culicidae) from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber, with the first description of a male and three new species
Original language description
Both sexes of Burmaculex porczynskii sp. nov. and females of Bu. edwardsi sp. nov. and Bu. harbachi sp. nov. from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber are described and illustrated. A male of Burmaculex Borkent & Grimaldi, 2004 is described for the first time. Priscoculex Poinar et al., 2019 is recognized as a junior synonym of Burmaculex, syn. nov. Paleoculicis Poinar et al., 2000, represented by Pa. minutus Poinar et al., 2000 from Upper Cretaceous Canadian amber, is placed in the subfamily Burmaculicinae. The taxonomic position of the oldest true mosquitoes of the subfamily Burmaculicinae is discussed.
