Legislatures in Authoritarian Regimes
Original language description
Authoritarian regimes have adopted a number of nominally democratic institutions, including legislatures. While in democracies, legislatures are responsible for passing laws and controlling the government, in authoritarian regimes, their role frequently differs and spans from a mere façade or rubber stamp to an institution used for controlling the opposition, co-optation, and distribution of prebends (cf. prebendalism).
