The Religiosity of Czech Society
Original language description
The religiosity of Czech society is greatly diversified. Not only is religiosity represented by traditional Christian Churches but it is also symbolised by a number of smaller religious movements and associations based on the spirit of community or withno legal foundation whatsoever. Out of many Churches and assemblies operating on the territory of the Czech Republic, only 21 were registered at the Churches Department of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic according to Act No. 161/1992 Coll.in the 1990s, and there were another 9 registered in compliance with the new legislation of 2002. By the law, Churches and associations are not equal. The variety of the Churches and religious movements results from different understanding of Christianity and from continuous division of the originally unified Christian Church from the very beginning of its existence.
