The Ambiguity of the Relationship between Children’s Art and Kitsch
Original language description
This study identifies the problematic relationship between children’s art and kitsch in the perspective of the differentiation of both creative fields. In general, the problem can be encompassed as the complication of the identification of signs of high and low quality in works addressed to children. This study begins with the rather troublesome formulation of who the addressee is, and what constitutes the artistic field addressed to children. Furthermore, what complicates some of the signs of aesthetic communication with children includes the simplicity of a message and the conservatism of creative methods. This study attempts to outline different approaches to these areas of art and kitsch. It concludes by highlighting the role of adults and their own relationship to art and kitsch.
