Reliability assessment of steel frames allowing for corrosion effects
Original language description
The proposed paper is concerned with the reliability assessment of steel frame structures using the probabilistic SBRA method (Simulation-Based Reliability Assessment). The main principles of SBRA method are explained and described in the first part of the paper using a comparison with the Partial Factors Design approach applied in current European standards. The problems of safety, serviceability and durability assessment are next described and discussed using a pilot example of the probabilistic reliability assessment of a steel portal frame with centre leaning column. The assigned frame is solved in two alternatives (a) the safety and serviceability assessment without allowing for the corrosion effects and, (b) the reliability assessment of the structure with possible corrosion effects.
