Watercourses and other water elements are important part of all cities. In the Middle Ages, rivers often represented only source of drinking water and so they significantly formed urban structure of many settlements. Today, rivers represent places with very high recreation potential. Unfortunately, watercourses aren?t pulled in town?s conception always. This chapter describes historical development of Ostrava city in relation to city?s watercourses and analyses today?s state of this watercourses.
