Development of Service Life Model of I-99 HPC Bridge Decks in Pennsylvania
Result description
This paper presents development of service life estimation of HPC bridge decks on I-99 in Center County Pennsylvania. The 10 best performing HPC mixtures were chosen for implementation on several bridge decks constructed as part of the Interstate 99 highway project in Centre County Pennsylvania in 2004. A finite element diffusion model is under development in order to estimate the corrosion initiation time for these bridge decks within their intended service life. This model is established in conjunction with a probabilistic method called Simulation Based Reliability Assessment (SBRA) to address the inherited randomness of input variables. The reliability model focused on uncertainties in the governing input parameters. Early age concrete diffusivity, concrete cover depth, crack spacing probabilistic distributions are based on the in-situ measurements. While other parameters such as holidays in reinforcements, coatings and critical chloride threshold level in epoxy coated reinforcement
