    Numerical Modeling and Experimental Investigation of Masonry Columns

    This paper discusses the computational modelling of short masonry columns. The main aim is the preparation of the numerical and experimental background for the development of concrete-based strenghtening or reinforcing elements for masonry structures. The input data for the numerical modelling of columns has been obtained by the remodelling of basic experimental tests of the bricks and the mortar samples. Selected results of laboratory tests of masonry elements are given and numerical remodelling is presented. The Willam-Warnke elastic-plastic constitutive model is used for the numerical analysis. Three-dimensional finite element models are used and for most of the work the ANSYS software was used. The commercial finite element code is used because ofits general availability.
