Reducing the Shear Stress in the Footing Bottom of Concrete and Masonry Structures

  • Original language description

Different deformation loads are created on the ground surface due to undermining, which are then transferred to foundation structures. Relative horizontal deformation is one of the most dangerous. The effect of this deformation can be eliminated throughthe use of different methods. In the case of an existing building, pre-stressing of the masonry is carried out using pre-stressed strands or ropes. For new buildings the application of a sliding joint is suitable. These methods can also be combined in some structures. Different types of materials are used to create the sliding joint and it is necessary to know their properties by shear loading to their proper design. At our university many types of materials and their behavior are tested and studied byshear load and different ambient temperatures. This paper deals with describing the function of a sliding joint, the materials used, as well as the results and conclusions from current tests.
