The use of linear fracture mechanics to estimate the service life of the historic riveted crane runway
Original language description
This paper describes the use of linear fracture mechanics to estimate the service life of the historic riveted crane runway, which was a part of an old stamping building in an industrial area in Ostrava - Vítkovice (Czech Republic). In 2011 the hall wassignificantly reconstructed and it was necessary to resolve the possible retention of the original crane runways. Reliable functioning of the riveted crane runway was verified using the methodology based on linear fracture mechanics. It results from thestatic analysis that the service life of the crane runway may be expected in the range of approximately 35 to 75 years. The original historic character of the building can be preserved without limiting the demanded operation in the building.
