Old structural timber has its aesthetic and technical value and there are many ways how to use old wood in current civil engineering. It is used for reconstruction of historic buildings or we can use it as design building material for modern and architecturally interesting buildings. Old timber has beautiful color shades which are inimitable for new timber. Reuse of old timber has its risks. Old timber can be infested of wood-decaying insects and fungi. It can has lower mechanical parameters like compressive or flexural strength. Before reuse of old timber must be performed a preliminary survey and diagnostic of old timber. When we re-use wooden elements in construction they require remediation. There are many ways we can make redevelopment. The basicway is protection of old timber against infestation of wood-destroying insects and fungi.
