    Sliding Joint in Civil Engineering

  • Original language description

Sliding layers are needed wherever there friction arises. These are used for example as surface treatment of various types of bearings in mechanical engineering. But sliding layers or joints are used in civil engineering too. The basic principle is verysimilar to sliding layer in mechanical engineering. The main function is to reduce friction forces between two materials or two structures. This paper deals with sliding joint from asphalt belts which are used to reduce internal forces into foundation which are exposed to effect of horizontal loads. This horizontal load is caused by undermining or as accompanying effect of creep or shrinkage. Last but not least pre-stressing of foundation structure is also horizontal load. An asphalt sliding joint can be helpful at all of these structures. Correct design of sliding joint is very difficult task in practice and it is needed to know properties of asphalt belt to their right accomplishment. In this paper is described method to finding all i
