Quantitative and qualitative differences in selected Prague cemeteries
Original language description
When comparing old and newly established cemeteries it seems that the value of a man is decreasing. The aim of the article is a comparison of the two largest cemeteries in Prague. Olšany Cemetery was established as a plague burial and their largest development was in 18th and 19th century. In comparison with the cemetery in Ďáblice, which was founded in the early of 20th century and it is specific for its natural face. Both are architecturally so significant, it is supposed to start with these examples. Cemetery in Olšany is characterized by harmonic foundation, where the bodies are stored to rest, including many prominent personalities. In contrast the Ďáblice gives the impression of imbalance, chaos, in which the bodies are rather postponed. Quantitative and qualitative differences with regard to the specific character and atmosphere of place for final resting is searched significance for contemporary cemeteries. When exploring the adaptability to changes in burials and society we are trying to find their strengths and weaknesses.
