The paper deals with the monitoring of qualitative indicators and their direct influences on the use of public spaces. The monitored indicators are safety, accessibility, functionality, comprehen- sibility (easy orientation), comfort, and pleasure in staying. The purpose of the pa-per is to achieve a comprehensive view of the issues and to define basic qualitative indicators to ensure the functionality and usability of a public space, pointing out deficiencies found.
