Influence of Structural Details Solution to the Overal Energy Performance of Building

  • Original language description

Energy performance of buildings is mainly influenced by composition of all peripheral structures, which delimit heated parts of building. Structures of modern energy efficient buildings include mainly thick layers of thermal insulations. Material and thickness of this thermal insulation is decisive for the overall value of heat transfer coefficient U [W/m2K]. U-value is the basic criterion for the evaluation of thermal-technical parameters of building structures. This value characterizes only insulating parameters of the structure in its area. However, each building includes also a big number of 2D and 3D construction details, which can significantly affect the overall energy performance of building object. This effect is very perceptible especially in connection with buildings which support system is based on wood. For example, connection between ceiling and peripheral wall is very critical detail, which cannot be insulated as well as the areal structure. These places are designated as thermal bridges or thermal bonds. The aim of this paper is to describe the analysis of the influence of construction details solution quality and their inclusion into computational models in different forms. Analysis is performed by specialized software, which is designed to solve stationary temperature field. The paper also includes the recommendations of applying the structural details solution into overall energy performance of buildings rating.
