Microorganisms Growing on Insulated Façades
Original language description
Occurenceof microorganisms on façades is a common problem, mostly on prefabricated houses which were additionally insulated. There are two main reasons of the insulation: lowering energy costs and new look of the facade. Algae, mould and bacteria can grow on almost every surface, but not all insulated façades are attacked by them. Suitable conditions for growth of organisms on facades are certain ranges of temperature and high moisture level, but also the surface structure, nutrient availability, pH, etc. Different organisms have different demands that decides if an organism can grow in a certain environment. At the present time there is no material that can resist microorganisms for long time. This problem depends on many factors which are described in the article in more detail.
