Probabilistic reliability assessment using statistical analysis of structural monitoring

  • Original language description

The probabilistic methods are used in engineering tasks where a computational model contains uncertainties through the random variables. The paper deals with the new method of Direct Optimized Probabilistic Calculation-"DOProC". This probabilistic method presents a new computational tool for solving probability and reliability problems. This calculation procedure consists, in particular, in the optimized method of numerical integration using the basic knowledge of probability theory. Applications of the DOProC method lead in many cases to more accurate solution of probabilistic tasks, and, in some cases, to considerably faster completion of computations. The input variables of calculations by DOProC are particularly statistically dependent and statistically independent random variables. Probabilistic representation of random variables in DOProC method can be done on the basis of measurements in laboratories, extensive data base and monitoring of existing buildings. The calculation algorithm was programmed in multiple software applications and has been successfully applied in solving a number of probabilistic tasks and probabilistic reliability assessments of carrying structures. HistAn, HistAn2D and HistAn3D are the utilities which were used for the statistics and sensitive analysis of the values measured in the several structures under monitoring and for the definition of input random variables in probabilistic reliability assessment.
