THE DEPENDENCE OF URBAN CEMETERY STRUCTURES ON RESIDENCE VITALITY
Original language description
The article contains the results of research, which dealt with the relationship between the cemetery and residences and their mutual influence and interconnection. The research was carried out in the Czech - Polish border area. The following places were visited - Vrbno pod Pradedem, Munich, Zlate Hory, Ondrejovice, Vidnava, Javornik, Jesenik, Rejviz, Horni udoli, Jindrichov, Osoblaha and Mesta Albrechtice. Research data concerning the development of individual settlements and cemeteries was collected. The settlements were subdivided according to urban structure and subsequently subjected to analyses with links to cemeteries. This data was subsequently processed using statistical analysis. The results of these analyses are displayed with graphical representations of interdependencies and a tables which show the development of surveyed sites. The respective locations have a major problem with population decline, which is caused mainly by a lack of job opportunities. The solution to the problem is a question for a society-wide discussion and at the moment we are not able to propose an adequate solution to the problem. The research results show a dependence of the cemetery on the settlement. We can observe two extremes - the first extreme is a living city with a functional cemetery, where we can trace the history of the place and the relationship of the population to the city and respect for its ancestors. The other, opposite extreme is the case when cemeteries gradually disappear and with their disappearance, there is a gradual disappearance of the settlement. The results of the analysis proved the hypothesis that urban settlement structures are more capable of sustaining life than agricultural linear settlement structures. In conclusion, we can say that cemeteries show us a certain picture of the life or gradual demise of the settlement.
