Original language description
As part of the built heritage of the ancient city of Olomouc - capital of Moravia until 1640, alternately with Brno- the city walls constitute an important landmark perhaps not sufficiently known with respect to the historical and architectural value of the complex and of the city, third monumental bound historical center of the country by size. The historic center of the city is therefore strongly identified by the walls that isolated the original Roman castrum of Iuliomontium (Mons Julii) in a strategic position in the center of a plain at the confluence of the Bystřica and the Morava.A section of the wall approximately 500 m long constitutes the case study of the Olomuc city walls project addressing the survey work for the virtual heritage conducted by the internationally in- terdisciplinary group.
