Development of Fracture and Other Mechanical Properties of Concretes with Different Curing

  • Original language description

Cement hydration significantly affects the properties of concrete. The strength of concrete increases with cement hydration. However, in the case of insufficiently cured concrete, micro-cracking due to shrinkage occurs. The fracture properties are very sensitive to the development of micro-cracks. Some concretes were prepared with water to cement ratios of 0.5 and 0.3 with a maximum size of aggregate 8 mm. Fracture and other mechanical properties were measured during the first year of curing in water or without humidity exchange with the environment - foil-enveloped specimens. The results show interesting developments, which are discussed in the present paper. The results obtained provide a basis for the evaluation of the effectiveness of concrete self-curing.
