    This contribution shows one way of solving problem of the information gathering about dangerous materials when there are not available basic identification data. From bits of information it is very hard to put together mosaic of theproprties, positivelycharacterizing the material with goal to apply safety measures based on this information and to esure that the material will be dealt with appropriately. First decisions are very important, especially because of the speed they are made. It is possible t uuse expert system with knowledge base in the area of dangerous materials. Working with such system the commander can find all information needed to make concrete decision.
