Evaluation of acute toxicity limits for purposes of risk analysis in the Czech Republic
Original language description
Due to the using of different acute toxicity limits, the operators as well as crisis management can get involved in difficult situations caused by non-uniform interpretation of possible chemical accidents consequences. Preparation of consistent and uniform methodology for the determination of acute toxicity limits can lead to partial solution of the above mentioned problems and to general improvement of communication in the area of risks related to toxic substances. The aim of this paper is to give theoverview of limits used for estimation of possible effects of toxic substances on human health in the major accident risk assessment process generally, to give the survey of use of those limits in SEVESO II related safety reports in the Czech Republic and to point out some major problems in the area of major accident prevention that can be caused by the heterogeneity in the use of acute toxicity limits.
