Dispersion Conditions of Combustible Dusts for Determination of Minimum Ignition Energy (MIE)
Original language description
The minimum ignition energy (MIE) is an important fi retechnical characteristic which is linked to the sensitivity of a sample to be ignited by electrical spark. Nowadays, this value is determined in accordance with a standard EN 13821 Potentially explosive atmospheres - Explosion prevention and protection - Determination of minimum ignition energy of dust/air mixtures. Most often modifi ed Hartmann tube with volume of 1.2 l and with 7 bar of dispersion pressure is used for determination of MIE. In thispaper, it is discussed whether single value of dispersion pressure is accurate for all kinds of dust. From already done tests it can be derived that dusts with lower bulk density are pushed out of the test vessel and desired homogeneous dust cloud is not created. This hypothesis will be examined by further tests.
